Terms of use
The fine print, in plain English.
Last updated November 3, 2026. Slate by Slate is operated by Silvergrove Labs LLC (“we,” “us”). By using Slate by Slate, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.
What this is
Slate by Slate is a free, independent, nonpartisan resource made out of passion. It is meant only to educate and to help you compare what different published voter guides recommend. It is not legal, financial, tax or voting advice, and it doesn’t tell you how to vote.
Not official election information
We are not a government agency or election office, and we are not affiliated with any candidate, campaign, party, committee or guide shown here. For official information about your ballot, deadlines, where and how to vote, and results, rely on your official sample ballot, voter guide and local election office. Results shown here are unofficial counts taken from official sources. They may lag behind those sources or contain errors, and they can change until they are certified.
No money, no endorsements
The site is free. We don’t sell anything, run ads, take payments or accept money or sponsorship from candidates, campaigns, parties or the guides we list. Listing a guide, candidate or measure is not an endorsement of it, and their inclusion doesn’t mean they endorse us. Names and logos belong to their owners and are shown only to identify them. If you own a name or logo shown here and want it changed or removed, contact us and we’ll review your request.
Mistakes can happen
We work hard to be accurate, but this is a volunteer effort, and the site may contain errors, omissions or information that is out of date. Guides can change their recommendations after we check them. Summaries of a guide’s reasoning are our own short paraphrases; the guide’s published page is the authority on what it said. Always check important details against the original source. If you spot a mistake, please tell us.
No warranties
The site and everything on it are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. That includes any warranty of accuracy, completeness, timeliness, reliability, availability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We don’t promise the site will be error-free, secure or always online.
Limit on our liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Silvergrove Labs LLC, Slate by Slate and the people who make it are not liable for any loss or damage of any kind arising from your use of the site, your reliance on anything on it, or your inability to use it. This includes direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special and punitive damages, even if we were told they were possible. You use the site, and make your voting decisions, at your own discretion and risk. Where the law doesn’t allow these limits, our liability is limited to the smallest amount the law permits.
Please don’t misuse the site
When you use Slate by Slate, you agree not to:
- use it, or links and images made with it, to mislead anyone about when, where or how to vote, or about election results;
- present the site, a shared guide or a share card as official, or as an endorsement by us or by any guide when it isn’t;
- alter the guides’ positions or our content and pass the result off as accurate;
- send spam, abuse, threats or other people’s private information through the feedback forms;
- attack, overload, probe or disrupt the site, get around its security or spam checks, or scrape it in a way that burdens it;
- use it for anything unlawful.
We may block access or remove submissions that break these rules.
What you send us
If you send a correction, source or idea, you confirm you have the right to share it, and you give us permission to use it to improve the site, without payment or credit. Please don’t include anything you want kept confidential. How we handle your information is covered in our privacy policy.
Your picks are yours
Picks and notes you make stay in your browser unless you choose to share them. You’re responsible for anything you choose to share, and for keeping a backup if you want one.
Links to other sites
We link to guides, official sources and news outlets. We don’t control those sites and aren’t responsible for their content, accuracy or privacy practices.
If something goes wrong
If your misuse of the site, or your breaking these terms, leads to a claim against us, you agree to be responsible for it, including reasonable costs. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. If any part of them can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version, and continuing to use the site means you accept the update. Questions? Get in touch.
